Shame 04:36
I’m getting the feeling I should probably be more open than I’ve been I’m getting the feeling I should probably chuck it all and start again But from the space behind this mask I find that’s just too much to ask So in shame I beg forgiveness for the way I feel today ‘cause I know that come tomorrow I’ll wanna be feeling the same way And I know that what brings me such joy has brought you so much pain It is such a strange reversal of disdain Now I’m realizing you look at my mask and think I’m hiding out Now I’m realizing you’ve no clue what this is really all about So thanks for thinking about me And here’s my winking apology So in shame I beg forgiveness for the way I feel today ‘cause I know that come tomorrow I’ll wanna be feeling the same way And I know that what brings me such joy has brought you so much pain It is such a strange reversal of disdain I know that there will always be limits to our humanity When every wonder I can see here behind this boundary Will somehow still produce in me A feeling you might call shame I guess you might call it shame I guess you might So in shame I beg forgiveness for the way I feel today ‘cause I know that come tomorrow I’ll wanna be feeling the same way And I know that what brings me such joy has brought you so much pain And now you’ve become the Abel to my Cain For my shame, na na na na na na For my shame, na na na na na na For my shame, na na na na na na For my shame

Thirty-seven miles since we first stepped through the gate And still we have a while before milepost thirty-eight But who knows how much further on we’ll go? The rain must rain and the snow must snow And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way It’s not yours to determine what’s acceptable to take And no substantial sermon could ever jar the world awake But who knows how much further we’ll go on? The end must end and the dawn must dawn And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way The day must follow the night, and the night must follow the day The day must follow the night, and the night must follow The night must follow the day But who knows how much further on we’ll go? The rain must rain and the snow must snow And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way, your way And then any day the wind may shift your way

It’s another day under lock and key, mistaking inconvenience for tragedy And the antiseptic hush would make a doctor’s office blush And everything is bigger inside than out I heard it said that life’s a bowl of cherries, but I’m on a roll as a very Rotten lemon made into rotten lemonade Playing cards in an orchard in bloom, we can be counted on to Madly follow suit with other forms of optimistic fruit And who would ever request parole, when hope is smeared on a barber pole? And oh, how we watch it rise, least until the viewer dies But no help is coming however much you shout I heard it said that life’s a bowl of cherries, but down I roll as a very Rotten lemon made into rotten lemonade Playing cards in an orchard in bloom, we can be counted on to Madly follow suit with other forms of optimistic fruit Screaming out my attitude for all to hear, answered with the platitude “The Mall Is Near!” And then it’s home for television, television, television, television, television, TV Though I know it’s claimed so many tongues, I yell into the fan at the top of my lungs But I’ll surely live out my days where the lotus eaters graze And no one gets what I’d have to cry about I heard it said that life’s a bowl of cherries, but I’ve found a role as a very Rotten lemon made into rotten lemonade Playing cards in an orchard in bloom, we can be counted on to Madly follow suit with other forms of optimistic fruit

Tell me now you understand the weight of what’s happened here Tell me now you understand the weight of what’s happened here You’re pulled one way by the twitchy grinners You’re pulled one way by all the sad onions And I just wanna be, yeah I just wanna be A fly on the wall of your brain Tell me now the impact isn’t going to be lost on you (it’s not lost on you) Tell me now the impact isn’t going to be lost on you (it’s not lost on you) You’re pulled one way by the blushing bridges You’re pulled one way by the gulf of distraction And I just wanna be, yeah I just wanna be A fly on the wall of your brain Tell me now you understand the weight of what’s happened here (what’s happened here) Tell me now you understand the weight of what’s happened here (what’s happened here) You’re pulled one way and there’s no beginning You’re pulled one way and you can’t see an ending And I just wanna be, yeah I just wanna be A fly on the wall of your brain

The best gambler in the world retires the minute he’s ahead We lose when we forget what winning looks like It’s tactical and practical and somehow still absurd ‘cause you don’t know when the love of losing might strike And the guests keep on arriving to a firm slap on the ass Where the waxy flowers are thriving in a bed of gravel and glass In a bed of gravel and glass You’re stricken blind, you sway from left to right and back again Try to orient yourself based on what you’re hearing But the smattering of chattering has grown into a roar That caroms off the wall into which you’re steering And the guests keep on arriving to a firm slap on the ass Where the waxy flowers are thriving in a bed of gravel and glass In a bed of gravel and glass And each harsh word takes a day off of a life One more day to mourn an absence One more day to learn how sharply things can turn One more day to live life in the past tense The world is very loud this morning, eager and immense With lots of white noise and lots of movement I think I’ll wait it out ‘til it gets dark and quiets down For some of us that counts as an improvement And the guests keep on arriving to a firm slap on the ass Where the waxy flowers are thriving in a bed of gravel and glass And we don’t know where we’re driving, but we sure step on the gas To where the waxy flowers are thriving in a bed of gravel and glass In a bed of gravel and glass, yeah

about

The Fabulous 464s Portland, Oregon

The Fabulous Four Six Fours record on a four track cassette deck in Portland, OR.

They make melody- forward music with probably too many chords.

They sing tart little poems over those chords, and they put the vocal harmonies really high in the mix. And they call it quits after one or two takes.

Enjoy.
